Lactescence Pabos is a non-profit organization that works in the Rocher-Percé regional county municipality to promote breastfeeding and provide support to breastfeeding mothers.
Breastfeeding can be learned, and we also believe that it can be shared—whether it’s sharing information through our workshops, sharing support and advice through our coaches, or sharing between moms during our mom-baby meetings (where dads and extended family are always welcome)!
Our objectives
• Promote breastfeeding
• Provide information to women who want to experience breastfeeding, supporting them physically and morally through all relevant means
• Provide social education on the topic of breastfeeding
• Recruit and properly train breastfeeding coaches
• Break the social isolation of breastfeeding and pregnant women
• Democratize breastfeeding in the region and in society at large
Our story
Lactescence Pabos is an initiative by health professionals and mothers who, faced with the low rate of breastfeeding in the region, wanted to promote the practice.Founded in 1991, the group was initially composed of nurses, doctors and dietitians. Between 1999 and 2001, restructuring processes were initiated, and coaches became involved in the board of directors.Since then, the members of the committee, with the help of local resources, have worked to develop the organization’s potential. This allowed Lactescence Pabos to be recognized as a community organization in 2003.In the spring of 2012, the organization’s bylaws were amended to provide a framework for breastfeeding coach support through mandatory core training.
